A scientist can discover a new star but he cannot make one. He would have to ask an engineer to do it for him. – Gordon L. Glegg
As Gordon L.Glegg says, engineers don’t make a new star. But know from where he can find related sources.
Engineer doesn’t have to know everything (actually it is impossible to know everything). But a good one does have to know how to reach the information which he needs.
Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere. – Albert Einstein
One thing today’s engineers need most is that “imagination”. Even though schools, universities, collegues of today give lots of theory (and also some practise) to engineers, we still miss the power of “imagination”. A good engineer is able to bring a new phenomenon, as if it has never done before. I don’t mean that engineer shouldn’t look other’s phenomenon, he absouletly should have a look at other engineers’ (and also non-engineers’) designs, thoughts, etc. However, a good engineer should be able to create his own design and way of doing; no matter if it is perfect / wrong.
